Degree Group Discrepancies

The Campus Data Warehouse team is aware of a problem in production where Degree Group data vary slightly compared with the data in our legacy data warehouse. This is impacting various dashboards. We are currently working on a solution.

This issue is being worked on in ITSR#23477974.

From Simon: This appears to be bad data in OBIEE. I see 19 records where there is a mismatch in records with SEQNO 1 having CSU_CO_DEG_CODE that does not match with the assigned CSU_CO_MJR_CONCENTRATION_D record. They are all older records, so my best guess here is there was cleanup applied to the fact/dimension that missed a small number of records. In addition, there are also 128 records with CSU_MJR_CNCNTRTN_WID value 0. These records are much more recent (2019 though 2023) and this appears to be a problem with how the process assigns the WID in ERSD_F. I'll need to look into this a bit more. From Sathyan: The fundamental problem, which exists in OBIEE and is referenced by ITSR # 18337381, is one of key mismatch in the design of the integration and missing keys in the source objects under certain scenarios. We have retroactively fixed some of the data in current DW but never the underlying problem. This manifests itself in two ways (1) supplemental degrees whose degree level does not match the primary major (BS vs BA - DSUP_STG does not contain Degree Level so the ETL copies it from the primary degree in ERSD_STG, this breaks for double majors in e.g. Math BS + Spanish BA) and (2) majors whose degree level has changed for enrollment but not degree (recent examples were HDFS & CHHS) as OBI_MAJOR will be updated to align with Enrollment terms The degree grouping itself could be addressed by using OBI_DEGREE_GRP as a rollup of DEGREE_MD.CSU_CO_DEGR_LVL_CD in addition to its presence in Major Concentration Requested by: Michael Dorsch Created by: Michael Dorsch on Tue 10/15/24 3:36 PM Pacific Daylight Time
