Faculty Student Success 2025 Fall Weeks Missing Engagement

Image
I n our December Data User Advisory Group workshop, we discovered that Canvas user engagement score metrics are showing all 0.0 for most weeks of the term. Metric: "User Engagement" (sourced from User Engagement Dataset (RLS)). Some other Canvas metrics such as "Current Score %" (sourced from User Engagement Dataset (RLS)) and individual weekly "Total Canvas Clicks" (sourced from Page View Dataset) are appearing.  Investigation into the root cause is ongoing. We will monitor as the Spring term begins to see if the metric continues to populate as it did for the last weeks of the Fall 2025 term.

Resolved: Class Enrollment Dataset Shows No Data Before Academic Year 2014

Image
Update 11/25/2025:  The issue with terms prior to the 2014 Academic Year on dashboards built off of the Class Enrollment Dataset has been resolved in Campus Data Warehouse production. Grades, FSSD, and Course Enrollment Demographics should now show the historical data when selecting prior Academic Years on the dashboards. Example from Course Enrollment Demographics > Trends showing historical data prior to 2014 Academic Year.

Faculty Student Success > Post-Course Outcomes Enables Admission Basis Group Filter

Image
Update 10/29/2025:  The Post-Course Outcomes page of the Faculty Student Success dashboard in Campus Data Warehouse now has an "Admission Basis Group" filter that will allow faculty to exclude the Transitory or unknown admission basis group students from the analysis of whether the students continue to be enrolled, graduated, or are not graduated and not enrolled.   By de-selecting "Transitory" and "Unspecified" from the  Admission Basis Group  control, these students will not appear in the data visualizations on the dashboard.  GC0004628 - Add a way to filter Transitory students from FSSD Post-Course Outcomes In our August DUAG workshop, a faculty member highlighted that transitory students appear on the Faculty Student Success dashboard Post-Course Outcomes page as "Not Enrolled and Not Graduated." We can add a filter to enable faculty using this analysis to filter out Transitory students.

Redesigned Faculty Student Success Dashboard Available to All Faculty

Image
The Campus Data Warehouse team is pleased to have recently launched a redesigned Faculty Student Success dashboard (FSSD). The redesigned FSSD is now available for all faculty members to access in the Campus Data Warehouse.  Each faculty member only sees data for the courses and students they have taught or are teaching. The FSSD is a personalized tool that enables individual faculty members to gain powerful insights into how their students are doing — before, during, and after the students are enrolled in the faculty member's classes. With access to academic performance data, Canvas engagement metrics, demographic information, and equity metrics, faculty can explore trends in grades, identify students who may require support, and compare outcomes across terms or course sections. Please share the following with faculty in your area: Faculty Student Success Dashboard Informational Flyer Accessing the FSSD Log in to the Campus Data Warehouse through the Cal State Monterey Bay dash...

Resolved issue: Faculty Student Success > Missing Assignments Metric

Resolution update 9/4/2025: As part of the layout of the newly released Faculty Student Success dashboard at the beginning of Fall 2025, we have added a note to the applicable dashboard pages where the Missing Assignments appears, clarifying that the metric may include assignments graded manually: Note:   "Missing" assignments  may include those  submitted outside of the normal process that you may have graded and manually entered and / or " extra credit" assignements that were not required of all students.

Resolved: Faculty Student Success > Ontime Assignment Metric

Image
Resolution update 9/4/2025: The CSUMB Data Glossary entry for On Time Assignments was updated to include more information on how the On Time Assignments Assignment Status and % metrics are derived from the Canvas data: The Ontime Assignments % is derived by looking at all graded Canvas assignments and the assignment status (e.g. Late, Missing, OnTime). The "OnTime" status applies when the "Submitted At" date is before the "Due At" date for the assignment in Canvas or the faculty member graded the assignment manually and entered the grade. In addition, on the "Student Detail" page linked from individual student records on the newly redesigned "Current Term Students" and "Canvas Engagement" pages of the Faculty Student Success dashboard, you can see a detailed table that presents the Canvas "Assignment Status," "Due at," and "Submitted at" information for each assignment.

Resolved: Faculty Student Success - Major (Academic Plan) Not Displaying on My Graded Class List

Image
Resolution update 9/4/2025: The My Graded Class List page was retired in the new version of the Faculty Student Success dashboard released at the beginning of Fall 2025, as it provided duplicate information that may be found on the Post-Course Outcomes page of the new Faculty Student Success dashboard at the student level, as well as on the Completed Term Overview and Course Grades pages at the aggregate level.
